Global telecommunications software
provider Information Services Extended, Inc. (ISx)
today announced that Ed Downs has been named
Chief Executive Officer. Previously, Downs was
Vice President of Advanced Technologies for the
Software Group at IBM Corporation. Downs is the
first CEO of ISx, which was launched as
an independent company from IBM in January 2001
by Spencer Trask Intellectual Capital.
"Ed’s proven experience in telecommunications
technology and his track record both within IBM
and at start-ups like Fairway Technologies is
very impressive,” said Tom McClain, partner
in Spencer Trask Intellectual Capital. “Ed
has the knowledge and capability to transform
ISx into the engine that enables customers
to deliver information anytime, anywhere, to their
end users."

Ed became Vice-President, Advanced Technologies,
IBM Corporation in January 1996. At IBM, Downs
created and managed a broad spectrum of advanced
technology missions, the latest of which was The
Madison Project, for secure distribution of entertainment
content, a joint development effort with the global
music industry. From 1993 to 1995 he was CEO and
Managing Director of Fairway Technologies, a joint
venture of IBM and Blockbuster Video.
